Introduction The T1000 is TTi's research & development spinstand for Rampload and CSS. Motion Control The T1000 is equipped with a motorized X-Theta motion package; where both the pivot point of the theta-stage and the moment arm can be adjusted to replicate to motion of a particular drive's geometry. Dual Z micrometer stages allows precision adjustments of Ramp and Head's Z-height. An optional 2nd Theta stage is available for moving the ramp. An air-bearing spindle capable of 1 rpm to 20K rpm fulfills any media velocity requirement for the foreseeable future. A full line of disk clamps is available for any rotating media - typical hub sizes are from 8.0 mm to 40.0 mm. Clamping methods are manual (screw cap), pneumatic (bladder or ball), and vacuum. The DSP based motion controller provides precise control of all motion. This includes the ability to synchronize the ramp load an unload motion to the spindle index. This "load synch" motion will concentrate any load or unload damage to a smaller angular region of the disk. Available Sensors SG Channel The SG sensor can be mounted to measure the traditional tangential direction for CSS [x], in the radial direction for Rampload [y], and in the vertical direction [z] for unload forces. In addition, the SG sensor can also be mounted to the ramp instead of the head. Two types of SG sensors are available, one for sensitivity/low drift operation (< 1.5KHz), one for high frequency operation (>3KHz). The channel is also equipped with a programmable lowpass filter (100 to 10000 Hz.) AE Channel The AE channel starts with the pre-amp (single-ended or differential) with specific gain settings to match the particular sensor. The bandwidth of the AE channel is 50KHz to 5MHz. Thermal Asperity (TA) Channel A modified readback channel is used to detect thermal asperities from standard MR element. The analog signals are processed through our proprietary signal conditioning electronics to reject any signals from magnetic information. Bias current is programmable from -20 to 20 mA at 0.1 mA steps. A peakhold output (1ms) is also available for slower digitizer. Optional Laser Doppler Vibrometer (LDV) If visual access to the slider is available, an LDV can provide excellent vibration measurement for both CSS and Rampload (requires moving of ramp with 2nd theta stage) Data Acquisition & Analysis A fast (up to 20MS/s) Digitizer (12-bit) with deep memory will allow full test cycle capture (at full bandwidth of sensors). A typical ramp load/unload cycle is less than 1 second; however, a CSS cycle can be as long as 30 seconds. A single cycle capture can yield a few hundred megabytes of data, allowing unmatched flexibilities in post-processing. The Ultrafast DSP software has time and frequency analysis of captured signals with many post-processing tools. Database management and fast graphics engine can handle extremely large datasets. Elevation Featuring the industry's only elevation option with an air-bearing spindle. With the elevation chamber option, all tests can include an elevation avalanche. |
